once we finally had a lovely afternoon for our May Day Revels. The weather was mainly sunny and fairly warm which made a change from preceding years when we have usually been frozen stiff or blown away.
Held at the King’s Arms, this lovely old pub on Coleorton moor provided a fitting venue for a vigorous set of morris dancing from Loughborough based Bare Bones who joined in with the Maypole dancing to stage a demonstration set of three dances which were then attempted with rather less success by enthusiastic members of the public!
Roots Community Singers sang their hearts out in two fine sets of traditional maying songs, local folk band Calling Time kept the entertainment going with some lively tunes and songs while a motley troupe of mummers enacted the age old story of birth, death and rebirth epitomised by the John Barleycorn cycle of agrarian corn growth.
