We had a huge turn out for our May Day celebrations. With Bare Bones morris dancers joining us for the first time with a fine display of border morris which is done with sticks and great gusto! The maypole did sterling service with both adults and children joining in the fun and our community choir, ROOTS were of course in action with a very polished performance of its current repertoire which attracted a lot of complimentary comments.
Calling Time kept up the tempo with a fine selection of home grown songs and jolly, foot tapping jigs and we had several solo acts featuring storytellers, musicians and singers.
The Friends Of Newbold School provided a delicious BBQ of local produce and their famous “school dinner” puddings which, incidentally, are doing nothing for our waist lines, but proving too irresistible to resist! Everything was free except for the BBQ from which the school was very pleased to make in excess of £150 so many thanks to everyone who supported it.
A couple of weeks later ROOTS were once again in action at the Coleorton Parish Community day which took place in Coleorton woods.
All the local groups were invited to take part with ROOTS singing before and after the unveiling of the woodland plaque.
