Bushwell House

7, Melbourne Road, Newbold, Coleorton

Leics., LE67 8JH

Cost:  £20

Introductory storytelling workshop designed to give a good overview of the techniques and practise of traditional oral storytelling, suitable for beginners and those who might all ready have dipped their toes in storytelling.

Using participative exercises and games to illustrate and practise how storytelling works, the workshop will include:

  • What is “traditional storytelling?”
  • The difference between “telling” and “reading”;
  • How to find stories to tell – which ones work most easily?
  • How to remember a story
  • Visualisation games and finding images
  • Exploring words and phrases and language play
  • Development of empathy, listening and speaking skills
  • The role of voice, face and body – from “telling” to “performance”.

Please bring a short (5 minutes) traditional story, (folk / fairy tale, myth or legend, or a story of your own that fits into this mould if you prefer), which you feel comfortable working on.

You don’t need to have worked on it or learnt it!

Your story will be used during the afternoon session as the basis for putting into practise what we have covered during the morning.

We’ll supply drinks, but please bring contributions for a shared lunch.
