Roots Community Singers were out and about celebrating the festive season with a varied and eclectic mix of gigs beginning in November with two very wet and cold performances at Coalville and Ashby lights switch on.
These were followed by a much warmer carol singing session at the King’s Arms pub, Coleorton on the 5th December and Calke Park on the 6th.
The group’s festive highlight was the superb Before The Winter’s Fire concert at the Sir John Moore School, Appleby Magna. The choir joined forces with two local bands, Green Fortune and Calling Time to celebrate a
Victorian rural Christmas which featured a wonderful mix of festive music, song and food!
Volunteers from the choir were back in action the following day at the village’s highly popular Soupa Saturday, leading carols and playing seasonal music to a packed hall.
The final Christmas event was an old fashioned village carol sing around the Christmas tree at the Cross Keys, Newbold, followed by a lively social in the pub.
The New Year was seen in at a party organised by member Mary White and husband Gordon who will soon be off north of the border!
The choir reconvenes after the Christmas break on Tuesday, 5th January, 7.00 pm at the village school, Newbold, Coleorton.
