For the second year running ROOTS Community Singers were invited to take part in the Ashby Arts Festival.

Performing their first spot at the arts competition winners presentation ceremony at Ivanhoe College the group were in fine form singing a wide range of English and world folk songs taken from their current repertoire.

These included two brand new songs receiving their first public hearing.  Home Song was written by member Mark Knight who has his own band, Green Fortune. Where Will This Path Lead was written by the group’s Musical Director, Willow Songsmith.  Both these songs will be featured on a forthcoming CD celebrating the National Forest.

ROOTS then transferred to the Food & Drink Festival on the town’s Bath grounds.  Singing in the beer tent proved somewhat challenging, but a fine performance was still put on in spite of the background noise.  The soloists especially were to be congratulated for coping in the less than ideal conditions.

Said Brian Crofton for the Arts Festival committee, “I have spoken to a number of people and the praise has been unanimous – it was good last year but this year it was great!”
