Be prepared for an evening of poignant harmonies, rousing sea shanties, songs of love, loss, murder and mayhem with a hefty dose of original punk-celtic rock to round things off when ROOTS COMMUNITY SINGERS, GREEN FORTUNE, BAND ON THE RUM AND STARGAZY head up an evening of eclectic folk in all its many forms at the 2018 Ashby Arts Festival.
The four groups will be performing at the Lyric Rooms, Lower Church Street, Ashby de la Zouch, on Friday, 1st June, 7.30 pm and consist of:
ROOTS Community Singers – the area’s foremost folk choir whose haunting harmonies have delighted and thrilled audiences around the town and district for almost a decade. This highly accomplished group have gone from success to success culminating in an invitation to perform at the prestigious National Forest Timber Festival in July.
BAND ON THE RUM – Shanty singers hailing from Tamworth and well known on the local folk scene having performed at many folk festivals including Moira Furnace. Rollicking good fun so be prepared to heave Ho on the lanyards and sing along!
STARGAZY – Melbourne’s own folk band performing a wide selection of traditional and contemporary covers of well known folk favourites. The band perform regularly at Melbourne’s own arts festival and are always firm favourites.
GREEN FORTUNE – Rocking it up at the end of the night with their own brand of punk, celtic, rock. The band, who hail from Overseal, will be launching the first public performance of Unbroken Circle, a self-penned song which celebrates the 6 Noon Columns situated throughout the National Forest.
