We’re a bunch of folk enthusiasts dedicated to promoting the folk arts wherever and whenever we can!
We operate on a social enterprise basis with all of our activities being self funding. Any profit we make is used to fund further activities.
Many of our events take place on our smallholding situated in Leicestershire, just outside the village of Newbold, Coleorton which is about four miles from Ashby de la Zouch.
This town, according to a famous musical hall song, lies beside the sea but is actually as far away from it as you can get! That takes care of where we are, now let me introduce you to some of our stalwarts!
There’s …
Sue Kendrick – One of our chief writers. Co-author of Sleet, Shoots and Leaves, Johanne with the Long Hair and the Aristocratic Neck. Sue runs our creative writing workshops and is also a morris dancer, regularly dancing out with Bare Bones border morris.

Julie Holland – along with Andy, Amanda and Tim, heading up Calling Time, our resident band. Julie is our musical director and writes all the music for our productions plus lyrics and other prose. Julie is one of our workshop leaders, specialising in singing and song writing. See the bands Youtube page for more info.

Lois Crofton
Our parish poet and co-author of Sleet, Shoots and Leaves plus large parts of Johanne with the Long Hair and the Aristocratic Neck. Lois is a natural storyteller and actor and appears in most of our productions.
Ruth Gillespie
Plays fiddle and is one of our major photographers.
Brian Crofton
Actor, writer and voice overs. Seen here as the Jolly Hangman from the Aristocratic Neck.
Apart from the usual farming stuff such as hay making and raising cattle, we periodically set up our marquee and arrange various events where the emphasis is on fun and involvement.
In the past we’ve organised May Day Revels, Winter & Summer Solstice celebrations, a song writing, fiddle, melodeon, storytelling and creative writing workshops plus numerous private parties!
2009 saw us organise our biggest Folk on the Farm event ever! A whole weekend of dancing, music, workshops and performance. Take a look at our photos here:
